The
Early Childhood Family Support Program is a personal visiting
program to support parents of children from birth to 3 years old.
This service is provided by the CAP Fund and the Early Childhood
Interagency Council.

The Family-Visiting Program is a free program for those with children
aged birth to 3 years old. It provides a variety of services tailored
to individual family needs. A trained Family Support Specialist
visits with a family in their home or at a location of their choosinga
park, childcare center, library, etc.once or twice a month.
This program uses the nationally recognized Born to Learn materials
developed by Parents as Teachers. These materials use the latest
brain research.
A Family Support Specialist:
- Assists parents so they can give their children the best possible
start in life.
- Meets at a time and place that is convenient for families.
- Screens children for developmental delays.
- Provides information on child development.
- Holds workshops & discussion groups on parenting issues.
- Organizes play groups.
- Helps families access community resources.

Children participating in programs as the one proposed:
- Are more advanced than other three years olds in language
development, social development, problem solving and other intellectual
skills.
- Maintained developmental gains throughout the first years
of school.
- Have an early resolution to developmental delays, resulting
in less need for significant interventions in later years.
Parents
participating in programs of this kind:
- Are more confident in their parenting knowledge and skills.
- Are more apt to read to their children.
- Have lower incidences of child abuse and neglect in their
family.
- Are more involved in their children's schooling.
